Following last Sunday judging of the Memorial Trophy, I can now reveal the full results. It ended up with another win for Inn Focus, closely followed by Cardiff CC. Our entry was 4 prints by Arthur, John, Steve and Jennifer with ‘Double Header’ 16pts, ‘Amphu Labsta Pass’ 15pts, ‘Soul Taker’ 18pts and ‘Grounded’ 19pts respectively. That left us in 5th place points wise and =8th overall on count back with several other clubs. The total number of clubs entered was 24, the judge was Tony Dudley from the West Mids a current member of the prestigious club Smethwick.

The scoring was difficult as the judge had not seen the images beforehand even though they were delivered before Christmas. He initially did the critique on them all then scored them after the break holding back 25 images for final scoring, which were then done in no particular order so keeping the score sheet up to date was a bit of a nightmare. Only one image ended up with 20pts and that was a Kingfisher print from Inn Focus.

Final positions were, Inn Focus 74pts, Cardiff’ 72pts, Cymbran, Ebbw Vale and The Vale 71pts, Tenby and Towy Valley 69pts and then 6 clubs on 68pts inc Llanelli

This coming Sunday 26th January Rhondda CC are hosting the annual Memorial Trophy on behalf of the WPF, the venue is Maes y Haf,  Trealaw, Rhondda, CF40 2UB. It starts at 2.00pm. The judge is Tony Dudley from Midland Counties Photographic Federation.

Amman Valley 3 way battle, where 8 prints and 8dpi are entered. The date for this is 20th November

Stanley Chell comp approx 20-25 clubs enter annually, where 4 prints are entered with at least 1 Landscape. This takes place on 23rd November

Last week we had the annual Ivor Russell trophy, which represents prints taken in Carmarthenshire in honour of Ivor Russell. In attendance was Mrs Russell together with her son and daughter. After an introduction by our president Ray Rees the judge Nick Jenkins began his critique of the 16 prints submitted, this was a slightly reduced number based on the previous 3 years we have been running this competition, however the quality of the entries made up for this.

After a very good critique by Nick we had an excellent buffet supplied by the members after which the winners were announced. As this is a special one of trophy only the winner is given recognition, however the top six were indicated on the night and it was a close run thing as Nick pointed out.

The eventual winner was Jason Dale with his ‘Machyns Sunset’. Above is a picture of the presentation to Jason with Nick Jenkins on the left and Mrs Russell presenting the trophy on the right.

On the 7th July the WPF held an inaugural print competition to choose the two clubs who would represent the WPF in the National finals at Connaughs Quay in October, this choice would normally be made from the Salon entry, which we won this year but the WPF chose to create this new event for the selection process.

As I was on holiday Graham and Jay attended and made the necessary selections for the second round after the selection committee had chosen the 1st round entry prior to the competition. The club entry had to be 12 prints for round 1 consisting of at least 5 B&W (Monochrome) and 5 colour with no more than 3 Natural History. In round 2 it was 15 prints with the same criteria although images from round 1 could be used again dependant on there 1st round score.

After round 1 we were in =7th position from the 11 clubs that took part, after the final round 2 we ended up in =5th place, with Inn Focus on top and Tenby second. Both these clubs go forward to represent the WPF in October.

Before the club closed for the summer we held our annual ‘Sospan Trophy’ event. A battle between ourselves, Amman Valley, Carmarthen, Pembrey, Tenby and Trostre.

All the clubs entered 6 projected images and the judge was Liegh Woolford, after the first 3 rounds we were 2pts clear of Tenby in. We then had a break and as usual a good spread was provided by the members. Once all the images were shown we came out triumphant with 113pts
