Amman Valley June 2012 Battle

Last night was the annual 5 club battle at A.Valley. The clubs taking part were Carmarthen, Pembrey, Neath, Amman Valley and ourselves. The comp was over 8 prints per club, judged by Kevin Thomas.
Our entry was ‘Death of a Dream’ by Peter Francis 18pts, ‘Gritty Romance’ by Gary Martin 20pts, ‘No Palette’ by Jennifer Williams 19pts, ‘Indigo Dye Worker’ by Joyce Mollet 17pts, ‘Solitude’ by Graham Harries 18pts, ‘Tranqil Dawn’ by David Rees 17pts, ‘Twighlight in Bath’ by Arthur Mallett 17pts and ‘Subway-New York’ by John Ellis 16pts.
This gave us a total of 142pts and an overall WIN, in second place was Neath with 136pts and third was A. Valley with 130pts, equal 4th with 128pts were Pembrey and Carmarthen.
Well done to all those who had images selected and special congratulations to Gary for the only 20pt print in the competition

Barrian Cup 2012

Yesterday was the annual battle at Barry CC. This year there were 24 clubs entered with 5 prints each (at least one landscape). The judge was a lady called Margaret Salisbury FRPS, APAGB, MFIAP, apparently she was the first lady judge in the 17years the competition has been running.
If we ever need a good judge I would recommend her as she was very precise and very entertaining at the same time.
Our 5 prints were ‘Railway Sidings’ by Arthur Mallett (15pts), ‘Eye of the Beholder’ by Jennifer Williams (17pts), ‘Rusting Wreck’ by Gary Martin (14pts), ‘Clowning Around’ by Steve Milton (17pts) and ‘Grandfather and Child’ by Joyce Mollet (20pts).
Out of the 5 prints we have to submit at least one landscape, this was difficult as we were limited with the number of options, therefore we decided to enter the image by Gary. But as you can see we were unfortunate with the mark scored.
However we were redeemed by the image from Joyce, which scored 20pts (well done again Joyce) one of only four 20pts scored out of the 96 prints shown (96 different authors).
The overall winners were Gwynfa CC with 87pts and the winner of the Best Landscape was Rhondda CC. As you can see our final score was 83pts leaving us in =5th place. Last year we were 14th.
Congratulations must also go to two new members Jennifer and Steve for giving us good scores of 17pts each.

2013 A New Beginning

So a new year begins, our first meeting will be on 9th January when we will choose the winners for the best projected and best print from the 2012 winners. So if you were a winner be sure to bring your winning image in on the night otherwise you cannot be considered for the honour.

It will also be hand in for the first print comp of the year, so don’t forget those entries especially the new members.

As a reminder for all members the deadline for anyone who wishes to enter the WPF Salon will be around 3rd week of February as the entry has to be in by the WPF AGM held in early March.

Annual Christmas Dinner 2012

On the 19th December we had our annual Christmas dinner, this year it was held at ‘Al Italia’ in Llanelli. Our newly appointed Secretary Terry Williams did a splendid job of organising the meal, venue and the secret Santa our thanks go to him from all that attended.
We also had an impromptu song or two from Jo, which added a bit of talent to the night.

Stanley Chell 2012

Saturday 24th November was the Stanley Chell competition, our entry was with 4 members work.
‘Machyns Pools’ by Clive Martin 16pts
‘Clowning Around’ by Steve Milton 19pts
‘Todays News’ by Joyce Mollet 17pts
‘Gritty Romace’ by Gary Martin 16pts
 
There were 26 clubs entered and after the first two rounds we were 1pt behind the leaders with 36pts, however we fell away in the second half only scoring 32pts when most of the contenders were scoring 39pts.
We finally ended in 10th place on count back (7th on points) so not to bad. Well done to those who were chosen for the entry and thanks to Jackie and Joyce for their company
 
The overall winners were Gwynfa with 75pts, best landscape was by Bridgend, best Monochrome by Neath, best colour print by Gwynfa and a new trophy for best image overall was won by Inn Focus Group.
In second place was Inn Focus, Port Talbot and Bridgend with 74pts and third was Tenby with 73pts.

3 Way Amman Valley Battle Nov 21st 2012

Last night was the Annual 3 way battle at Amman Valley between AV, Carmarthen and Llanelli, it consists of two rounds of 8 projected images and 8 prints. The judge was Ian Ledgard LRPS, AWPF, EFIAP and EPSA
 
After round one of the projected images we were 2pts in front of AV with 139pts AV 137pts and Carms 135pts.
In round two prints we had the best print ‘Sadhus’ by Gary Martin scoring 20pts but AV came away with 137pts, Llanelli 133pts and Carms 129pts
 
So the final totals were
1st AV with 274pts
2nd Llanelli 272pts
3rd Carms 264pts

Annual Exhibition 2012

Last Friday/Saturday was the 2012 Annual Exhibition held at the St Elli Centre Llanelli.

This year we had an excellent entry of 81 prints showing the best from the members, early Friday morning Kevin Thomas came and judged the entries to find the best Monochrome, best Colour and best overall image, with a few highly commended as well

Best Colour was ‘Temple Boys’ byTony Collis
Best Monochrome was ‘Lonely Road’ by Arthur Lees, this was also judged best print in show.

During the two days the public were asked to vote for their favourite, with a prize of their favourite print for the person who was drawn at the end of the show.
‘Twilight in Bath’ by Arthur Mallett (17 votes) was voted the public choice in a close run contest with ‘No Palette’ by Jennifer Williams  (14 votes)

The person who won the draw was a Mr Robert Ephgrave who chose the wheel in the Mine photo by Peter Francis
Well done to all who entered without whom it would not have been possible and a special congratulations to all the winners and runners up. Also a big thanks to all who manned the stand and helped set it up and dismantle during the two days.

5 Print Panel 2012

Last Wednesday was the annual 5 Print Panel Comp, this year the judge was Brian Coleman who is the current President of the WPF. He was also the past organiser of the AWPF distinction accreditation.
So Brian is more than qualified to judge such a competition. There were a number of very good entries and in the end he decided to share the best panel between two as shown below, however they were both by the same person namely Joyce Mollet as you might guess.
Joyce is a past expert at such entries having gained an LRPS, ARPS and AWP distinctions in print panels, she has also previously won this competition on several occasions.

Gwynfa Pixels 2012 Results

Last Saturday was the annual Gwnfa Pixels competition, this year 36 clubs entered only 1 short of the all time entry of 37.
We felt we had a fairly strong entry, however after 3 rounds we were only 2pts behind the leaders with our last image by Joyce to come. Normally that would be our banker, but on this occasion it fell short with a score of 13pts. Final scores below

Our final score of 68pts left us in 11th= place, which is on par with the last 4 years. The eventual winners after a countback was Tenby who finished on 77pts with Inn Focus, but Tenby took it with 3 x 20pts and Inn Focus only had 2 x 20pts.
Best colour was won by Tenby and best Monochrome was won by Rhondda.
 
Well done to those who had images chosen and special mention to Steve and Jennifer for both scoring 19pts. Thanks also to Jackie, Alun and Joyce for accompanying me on the day.
