Yesterday was the 2013 Ace of Clubs, thanks to Jackie and Peter Morgan for their company. This competition is quite long and complex because each club has to choose 30 images to work from over 3 rounds of judging.
Round 1 is chosen at the time the entry is made, after the judging for round 1 we were in a lowly 14th place out of 17 clubs, so we then had to choose another 10 images for round 2 this time we came out 7th, however this was not good enough to get us in the top 8 clubs for the final as we ended up cumulatively in 11th place and 9 clubs on count back went through.
So it was left to us to contest the Plate competition, for this we had to pick another 8 images 5 of which could be used again, at the end of this judging we were second to Western Valley.
The eventual overall winners were yet again Tenby with Inn Focus in second, because Inn Focus had automatic entry to the National Finals in July at Warwick (due to there top ten place last year) a second club was chosen and they were Ebbw Vale.
In case you were wondering, each year the top two clubs go forward to represent the WPF at the National Finals for dpi images, a similar event will take place in June to choose the two clubs for the Print equivalent. That National final is held in Chester and we were one of the representatives about 5 years ago
There is one major observation from this competition and that is that we were very let down by a lack of Natural History or Nature photos, nearly all the top clubs had at least 3/4 images in this category all of which scored highly 13-15pts (max 15pts)
This is an area we always fall down on, so come on guys and girls lets see some images!
